HISTORY
The Mercedes-Benz 220 SEb Coupé of the W111 series on sale was delivered to the Mercedes-Benz importer in Spain in July 1965. The founder and president of the import company later gave the 220 SEb to his son, who registered it to himself on the 10th of September, 1965. After his death in 1983, his son took over the vehicle and took care of it with great dedication until 2015. He finally sold it for reasons of age to the current owner, who has since registered it in Germany and uses it regularly.
The side panels were repainted some time ago for cosmetic reasons. However, the hood, roof and trunk are still in their first paint – in a very good condition. The interior is also still completely in its original condition, which can at least be seen in the seats after more than 56 years. The technology was regularly serviced and still works reliably.
The Mercedes has the desired "Matching Numbers" and is in a sought-after original condition, which gives it a very special charm. A great driving car, which by the now rare to find original condition also accounts to be a solid investment.
The Mercedes-Benz 220 Seb Coupé (W111), which was produced from 1959 to 1965, combines elegance, quality and style. The W 111 Coupé and Cabriolet series were the last two Mercedes-Benzes to be largely hand-built. The basis of the Coupé variant of the Mercedes-Benz 220 Seb is an unabridged frame-floor layout of the saloon variant, making it a fully-fledged four-seater. Although the coupé and the saloon have numerous stylistic similarities, it was not possible to use even a single bodyshell part of the four-door for the coupé. Four times as many parts were handcrafted for the Coupe than for the Saloon. The body is characterised on the one hand by an elegant, straight-lined form, and on the other hand by a passive safety which was unknown until then. The body has a stable passenger cell and an effective crumple zone.
Another feature of the 220 Seb Coupé was the disc brakes on the front wheels, which made it the first Mercedes production passenger car with disc brakes. The chassis has a recirculating ball steering system with double wishbones at the front and single-joint swing axle with balance spring at the rear. It has a dual-circuit braking system with disc brakes on the front axle and drum brakes on the rear axle.
