car description

For sale is an exceptionally beautiful Mercedes-Benz 280 SL "Pagoda" in the elegant color combination of Papyrus White (717) with a blue leather interior. The vehicle was originally delivered to the USA in 1968 and later made its way to Germany via the Netherlands. This is a fully restored Pagoda, both visually and technically in impressive condition.

The original delivery configuration featured Papyrus White (717/717) with MB-Tex in blue (135). During the meticulous restoration, the interior was expertly upgraded to high-quality blue leather. Numerous documents and invoices from the USA, as well as extensive records from Germany (2014–2022), provide compelling proof of the vehicle's history and the work that has been carried out. Additionally, seat heating was retrofitted to enhance comfort in a contemporary manner.

A current valuation report rates the vehicle as a 2+ (very good condition), highlighting the outstanding preservation of this classic. This Pagoda stands out due to its authenticity, the desirable color combination, and a well-documented history making it a car for enthusiasts and connoisseurs that leaves little to be desired.

History of the series

AThe top model of the SL series W 113 produced 170 hp from its 2.8 l displacement. As the successor to the 190 SL series, it fulfilled the wishes of many customers for more power and comfort. Due to the smooth running of the large in-line six-cylinder engine, the Pagoda also offered exceptionally good cruising qualities, making it a pleasant companion on rallies & trips.

The safety measures, which were new and trend-setting for the time, ensure a relaxed feeling. These included a defused interior without corners and edges, seat belts as special equipment and defined crumple zones.

The designation "pagoda" was given to it by the vernacular, as the concave roof resembles temples from the Far East - pagodas, in fact. Yet the shape was originally intended rationally as an improvement in the amount of space available.
