This Mercedes Benz 300 S Roadster of the series W188 is one of 141 produced copies and therefore a rarity for any collector and enthusiast. Coming from a very important collection, the roadster was last conserved in 2015.
The color combination of the paint in silver gray metallic and the red leather in the interior are an absolute eye-catcher. The colors of the paintwork and the leather correspond to the delivery colors. In addition to the paint and the new leather, the technology and the mechanics were overhauled as part of a first-class restoration. A new engine was installed, but the original transmission was retained. Photographic documentation of the restoration is available.
This roadster in a classic color combination is eligible for world class Concours d'Elegance and can be made road ready at any time.
The Mercedes Benz W188 series was presented to the public at the Paris Motor Show in October 1951. The coupés, cabriolets and roadsters were derived from the W186 series saloon and had a wheelbase that was 15 cm shorter than the latter. They were the last Daimler-Benz models still built on a chassis. With a total of 560 examples of the 300 S and 200 of the 300 Sc, the W188 series is rarer than the 300 SL (W198). Not for nothing was the W188 over the entire construction period the most expensive model series of Mercedes.
In 1955, the model series was then revised and renamed the 300 Sc. Both versions, the 300 S and the 300 Sc, are among the most exclusive Mercedes-Benz passenger car models of the post-war period and today, along with the 300 SL, are particularly sought-after collectors' cars.
