Here for sale is one of two known, immaculately restored Mercedes-Benz 230 OT (W143) from 1939, which was once ordered by the „Oberkommando des Heeres“. After its wartime past, the car reappeared in Holland, where it lay dormant in a barn from around 1966 to 1986. In 1986, the car was imported to Germany in a deplorable condition by its current owner.
In 2001, an extensive restoration began which left nothing to be desired. The entire wooden superstructure was renewed, the frame carefully blasted with granulate and repainted. The original engine, renewed from Holland, was given a second overhaul to ensure that it was in as-new condition. The gearbox and steering gear were completely overhauled by ZF, while the vehicle was meticulously restored by experts. Every single part was carefully restored or purchased new until the 230 OT was restored to its former glory. To preserve its authenticity, the central lubrication system was also reinstalled as a dummy. This masterpiece is a real gem for classic car enthusiasts and an impressive testimony to German engineering.
Experience the timeless elegance and unrivalled history of this Mercedes 230 OT, which is ready to experience new adventures and be admired. Secure this unique vehicle now and immerse yourself in the world of automotive luxury of bygone times.
The W 143 was a special version of the Type 200 with a long wheelbase, which was available from May 1936 with a 55 hp engine. The internal design number was changed to W 143, while the type designation was not changed to Type 230 until the end of September 1936.
The engine was fitted with a Solex double downdraft carburetor in October 1936. In February 1937, the Type 230 was presented at the IAMA in model-maintained form with technical modifications and redesigned bodywork.
Production of the short W 143 was discontinued in December 1937. It was replaced by the Type 230 N with a normal wheelbase. In September 1937, all variants received a fully synchronized four-speed gearbox. A total of 966 units of the 230 N were produced. At the beginning of 1938, the Type 230 received wider rims and new shock absorbers. The new Type 230 W 153 made its debut in February 1939.
Production of the W 143 ended in March 1941. 20,290 Type 230 vehicles were produced in total, 17,374 of them in Untertürkheim and 1,950 in Mannheim.
